Sheridan, WY

I made Sheridan just before 8pm, local time.  Not bad considering the various winter driving conditions I encountered on the way.  Snow at home and almost all the way to Missoula.  Slush on the west side of Lookout Pass (ID/MT border and possibly the most stunning state border crossing in the US when approached from the east).  Several inches of slick, fresh snow for about 30 miles east of Lookout with no visible road surface, just an ambiguous swath of white between the guardrails with a trail of brown sand down the middle.  At 25 miles per hour I was sailing past the semi trucks.  Crazy.  That all cleared up and then it was just high winds and blowing snow.  Highlight of the day was the lovely sunset at the MT/WY border as the clouds cleared away.  I need some sleep now, but plan to update this post with a photo later.

  1. I'm surprised you had snowy weather...other then the Lookout Pass area. I do know that your weather today will be dramatically different. I've driven that route so many times Jessica (Devils Tower to your left, late this morning as you head East). Glad your aren't driving the Sheridan to Rapid City route in the dark. On my motorcycle, on a warm summer night, going about 70 mph towards Rapid City from Sheridan (lightning in the distance), I drove by an Elk on I-90. He was just standing there, right on the inside lane of the highway, looking at me. I didn't see him until I was nearly next to him...could have reached out and slapped his face for choosing that particular spot to watch a motorcycle fly by at 70 mph. One of my nine lives I guess....
