Tubbs Hill Mural Project: Panel Prep
This was,
literally, my weekend. After almost 18 hours, the MDO panels are caulked,
sanded, and primed on one side. Left to do? Prime the back, paint two
coats of latex on the back, and one coat on front.
Step 3: First coat of primer with a high quality oil based exterior primer. The molecules of latex primer are less dense, allowing the paint to breathe. This is a bad thing on a mural, we want it sealed and waterproof!
Step1: Edges caulked to protect panels from letting in moisture which can cause paint to peel.
Step 2: Edges and corners sanded to a smooth rounded finish. Hard edges and corners risk paint chipping if bumped or rubbed.

Step 4: Second coat of primer.
